Once the photo shoot for our feature on the young designer Candice Kaye was completed, MILIEU spoke to her about the experience.
How did your day begin? -- With a wakeup call at 7 a.m.! I was staying at the SoHo Grand and because I had the makeup guy from Glamsquad coming to my room, I had breakfast brought up. Then, I loaded an Uber car with my jewelry, four changes of outfit, wallpaper samples, my sketchbooks and drove out to the studio, Holyrad, in Brooklyn.
Had you worked with our photographer, Brie Williams, before? -- I hadn’t, but she immediately made me feel so relaxed. She made our four-hour session a fun girls’ day out. We chatted, we hung up wallpaper together, we talked, we drank coffee, but we also worked really hard to get the shots right. She allowed me to choose the music I wanted to accompany the shoot—Beyonce’s new album Lemonade.
What struck you most about the shoot? -- It’s really cool to be the one being photographed. There are those moments in your career that make you smile and this was one of them. It made realize that I’m on the right track in life. I started my career in New York and it was so satisfying to be back here, at a super cool studio with a super cool photographer being the subject of attention.
