Twenty-eight-year-old Candice Kaye shuttles constantly between her Toronto home and design studio and another in New York, but as she told MILIEU, “In the future, I want to be everywhere.”
By that, she wants her fashions and furnishings to be everywhere in the world, as well as her actual self. “I get my inspiration from many sources, including just plain quiet and peace. Travel, too, is a big source. You have to see things outside of where you live to get ideas. If you stay in just one place too long, you can’t grow as a designer.”
To prove her point, she cites a camel ride she took deep into the Zagora desert in Morocco. There she pitched a tent in the sand (later sleeping in the open air because of the heat) and amid that extraordinary silence and seemingly infinite landscape, Kaye found inspiration for a series of new jewelry and wallpapers she is now developing.
