With its Mediterranean sunlight and fragrant breezes, Costa Brava is hardly cowboy country. But MILIEU set out to prove the versatility of Serge Castella’s textile collection, Port Lligat, for Gancedo. According to Emmeline Gancedo, it was Castella who approached the venerable Spanish textile firm with a line that incorporated maritime and landscape motifs of the region — seaweed, fish, reeds, cypresses, native grasses. We encouraged Serge to fashion the patterns into shirts for modern-day cowboys. What might appear as the Wild West is actual the mild east coast of Spain.
